Civic Center Project Insight From Councilman Smith

Councilman Howard Smith released a personal statement on the 8th of June to address some of the concerns people may have in regards to the council’s decision to move forward with the Civic Center project.

Much of the reason is money, between inflation and material costs constantly growing, as well as price reductions to better suit the interests of citizens who expressed their opinions.

Since the building of the ballpark and the parking garage, interest in those areas has grown as well and similar can be said for the improvements to the Civic Center Complex.

Citizens have very clearly expressed interest in the complex being updated, and the city is working on finding various income sources that will pay for the debt, and the best course of action is to proceed with the project.

Councilman Smith moves toward approving the ordinance, in an effort to save money on the project as a whole by avoiding increasing interest rates and construction costs, to bring more revenue back into the city.
