New Mail Scam Seen in Amarillo

Randal County Sherriffs office wants to warn Amarillo residents of a new mail scam, with details of an authentic letter from Randal County.

The letter claims there is a District Warrant for the person on the address, and threatens that Federal Tax Authorities are looking to garnish wages and bank accounts, house seizures, tax refunds, and property liens on the addressee.

The letter has a number claiming to reach the Tax Resolution Unit, and police advise not to call, as this is not a real department, and the scammer will aggressively seek money, as well as extra details like date of birth and social security number.

No official will ever ask for these personal details over the phone, and it is better to not engage with these scammers at all.

Look at the fine details of the letter, such as sending location, lack of return address, lack of a number of owed taxes, and tax period for needed payment, to name a few.

To report issues with these scams, follow the link to the Randal County Tax Assessors-Collectors, and the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts.
