Thursday Afternoon Crash Claimed Three Lives

A Thursday afternoon head-on traffic accident claimed three lives.

Emergency crews responded to the crash near 48th and Grand Street around 1 p.m.

According to a report provided by Sgt, Carla Burr of the Amarillo Police Department, 17-year-old Victoria Vasquez lost control of her white Lexus, crossed into oncoming traffic and crashed into a Chevrolet impala traveling in the opposite direction.

Vasquez was ejected from her car and pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Impala, 37-year-old Joseph Hernandez, and his front seat passenger, 38-year-old Moses Hernandez, also died as a result of injuries from the accident.

A child, also in the Hernandez vehicle, was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The accident is being investigated by the Traffic Investigation Squad of the Amarillo Police Department.
