Mayor, City Council final regular meeting
Today marked the final regular meeting for the outgoing mayor and current city council, and it didn’t last very long.
Following the reading of two proclamations, Mayor Ginger Nelson, council members, and others took their respective seats and moved into tasks at hand.
Only one person spoke during the Public Address, Michael Ford took the opportunity to thank Nelson, Freda Powell, and the other outgoing council members for their service.
The quarterly budget update was the most time-consuming portion of the meeting, followed by updates from council members serving on outside boards and commissions with Howard Smith speaking on the Local Government Corporation.
Once the meeting moved into consent items, they were acted on with a single vote by Mayor Nelson and the council members, passing them all with a 5-0 vote. City manager Jared Miller will execute all required documents for each transaction.
Mayor-elect Cole Stanley, Tom Scherlin and Don Tipps will be sworn in on May 16. Place 1 will remain open until that runoff between Dean Crump and Josh Craft decides the winner next month. Howard Smith will continue to serve in Place 4 until the runoff between Les Simpson and Claudette Smith decides his replacement.
