City Council, Mayor Extend Executive Session Concerning Miller

Mayor Cole Stanley informed those in the gallery at the start of Tuesday’s 3 p.m. The City Council meeting that the Executive Session held earlier in the day concerning City Manager Jared Miller was not able to be concluded and will be picked up at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Former council member, Dr. Eddie Sauer, joined a long list of public speakers to offer his thoughts on the Executive Session and Miller. Sauer shared that Miller is respected across the state while listing projects he attributed to Miller, including “The Ballpark.” Sauer was quick to note a number of the projects he listed were under the lead of the Amarillo Economic Development Corporation.

Following Sauer’s extended time at the podium, Mayor Cole Stanley thanked him for his service on the council, adding he and the current council members would take what he (Sauer) shared under consideration.

Former council member Howard Smith also praised Miller while mentioning he (Smith) understood the Executive Session might have been held to consider moving Miller from his current agreement to the one he worked under prior. Smith also hinted that if Miller leaves Amarillo, it might also lead to other high-profile positions being vacated.
