Wednesday Sports Update – Rangers Bounce Back Against Mariners

(Seattle, WA) — Ronald Guzman blasted a three-run homer in the Rangers’ seven-run fourth inning as they routed the Mariners 11-4 in Seattle. Nomar Mazara contributed a two-run homer to the win. Hunter Pence had two hits, two RBI and scored twice. Adrian Sampson picked up the win, allowing three runs over five innings. Texas snapped a three-game slide.

Rangers Will Start Smyly Today

(Seattle, WA) — Left-hander Drew Smyly will be on the mound this afternoon for the Rangers to conclude their three-game series against the Mariners in Seattle. Wade LeBlanc will start for Seattle. Astros Turn Back Cubs

(Houston, TX) — Alex Bregman hammered two homers and drove in three runs as the Astros turned back the Cubs 9-6 in Houston. Michael Brantley had two hits and two RBIs in the win. Roberto Osuna closed it out for his 15th save. Astros starter Corbin Martin failed to make it through four innings, giving up three solo home runs. Garrett Stubbs went 2-for-4 with a RBI in his big league debut. Houston is 4-and-1 in its last five. Wade Miley will start tonight for the Astros against the Cubs at Minute Maid Park in the finale of this three-game series. The Cubs will counter with Kyle Hendricks. The Astros will go on the road Friday, playing in Oakland.

Altuve, Correa Have Setbacks

(Houston, TX) — All-Star second baseman Jose Altuve returned to Houston to be examined by team doctors after reporting fatigue and soreness in his right leg. Altuve had been rehabbing a strained left hamstring with Triple-A Round Rock. All-Star shortstop Carlos Correa was out of the lineup for the second straight day with rib cage soreness. Plus, George Springer, Aledmys Diaz and Max Stassi are on the Astros’ injured list.

Bruins Host Blues In Game Two

Boston holds a 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven series after rallying to win Game One 4-2 on Monday. The Blues are chasing the first Stanley Cup title in franchise history. The Bruins won their most recent Cup in 2011.

Cowboys Back On Field For OTAs

(Frisco, TX) — After a four-day break, the Cowboys returned to the field for their fourth volunteer OTA session. They’ll have two more workouts this week and four next week to wrap up 10 no-contact, no-pad drills. Dallas will begin a three-day mandatory minicamp on June 11th. The Cowboys will play their first preseason game on August 10th against the 49ers.

Texans Return To OTAs

(Houston, TX) — The Texans returned to the field and completed their fourth volunteer OTA session after a four-day break. They will hold two more OTA sessions this week and four next week. Houston will begin a three-day mandatory minicamp on June 11th.

NCAA Baseball Tournament

(Undated) — Texas Tech, TCU, Baylor, Texas A&M and Dallas Baptist secured at-large berths to the NCAA Baseball Tournament 64-team field and will play first-round games Friday. Dallas Baptist is second-seeded in the Lubbock Regional and will face Florida in the first-round. Host and top-seeded Tech will open with Army. The Bears will play Loyola Marymount in the Los Angeles regional, which is hosted by the number-one overall seed UCLA. The Frogs are headed to the Fayetteville Regional and will face California in their first game. The Aggies are bound for the Morgantown, West Virginia regional, where they will tangle with Duke in the first round. All the regionals are double-elimination.
