(Frisco, TX) — With Pro Bowl center Travis Frederick retiring, the Cowboys have a big hole to fill. Joe Looney replaced Frederick in 2018 and did a good job. He re-signed with Dallas last week. Other in the mix are Connor McGovern, Adam Redmond and Connor Williams. McGovern was a third-round pick last year out of Penn State as a guard. Redmond is a center from Harvard and has appeared in 14 NFL games, no starts, while making 154 snaps.

NFL GM’s Recommending Draft Be Pushed Back

NFL To Close All Team Facilities Tonight

(New York, NY) — NFL training facilities will close league wide tonight. Commissioner Roger Goodell sent a memo to all 32 clubs, saying they must close by 6 p.m. Eastern, with few exceptions. The closures will last until April 8th when the league will determine with the help of medical and health experts if it’s safe to reopen.

Closure of Winged Foot Golf Club Could Jeopardize US Open

(Mamaroneck, NY) — The US Open could be in jeopardy. The closure of Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, New York has put the golf major in limbo as the United States Golf Association is unable to proceed with the build-out of the course. New York Governor Andrew Cuomo ordered the indefinite closure of the club through executive order following the coronavirus outbreak. The US Open is scheduled for June 18th through June 21st.

Tokyo Olympics Postponed To 2021

(Tokyo, Japan) — The International Olympic Committee made the inevitable postponement announcement yesterday. The 2020 Summer Tokyo Olympics will be delayed until next year, but not later than the summer of 2021 because of the coronavirus concerns. It will still be labeled the 2020 Olympics. The 1916, 1940 and 1944 Olympics were canceled because of war, but none has been postponed.

Area Athletes In Limbo On Training For Olympics In 2021

(Dallas, TX) — Michelle Carter, the 2016 Olympic shot put gold medalist, was hoping to defend her title in the 2020 Olympics. That is put on hold as the Olympics were postponed until next year. “The goal doesn’t change,” the Red Oak resident said. “The plan to get to the goal changes.” Fort Worth skeet shooter Vincent Hancock won gold in 2008 and 2012 and earlier this month qualified for his fourth Olympic berth. “Obviously, they’re making the right decision as far as the health and welfare of the athletes and everyone that’s involved,” Carter told the Dallas Morning News after the Olympics were postponed.

Former A&M Basketball Player Dies Of Coronavirus

(New York, NY) — Former Texas A&M point guard David Edwards died Monday from coronavirus in New York. He played three years at Texas A&M and led the Southwest Conference with 265 assists his senior year in 1994. He grew up in New York and played his freshman season at Georgetown before transferring to the Aggies.

GoFundMe Page for COVID-19 Victims Gets Shut Down

(Undated) — The NCAA is blocking a coronavirus GoFundMe page started by a student athlete. Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence and his girlfriend started the campaign to raise money for victims of COVID-19. The NCAA shut down the page because it doesn’t allow students to use their name and likeness for crowd funding. Nearly three-thousand dollars were raised before the page was taken down.
