Tuesday Sports Update – Sod Poodles Win With Walkoff Homer In The 11th

(Amarillo, Texas) – With two outs in the bottom of the eleventh inning, Owen Miller crushed a three-run home run to complete a four-run comeback over the Northwest Arkansas Naturals and walk off 9-8 in front of a 19th consecutive sellout crowd of 6,558 at HODGETOWN. The Sod Poodles late win secured the Sod Poodles 13th series victory of the season. The Sod Poodles head to Springfield Wednesday to face off against the Cardinals for a three-game series at Hammons Field before continuing on to Springdale and face the Naturals for four more games.

Mariners Extend Rangers’ Skid To Eight

(Seattle, WA) — Adrian Sampson was roughed up for six runs in less than six innings in a 7-3 loss to the Mariners in Seattle. The Rangers left the bases loaded in the second while scoring only one run. Rougned Odor  homered in defeat. The Rangers have dropped eight in-a-row.

Rangers To Meet Mariners Again Tonight

(Seattle, WA) — The series with the Mariners continues tonight in Seattle. Rookie right-hander Pedro Mayano will pitch for Texas. Rangers manager Chris Woodward said he would probably use left-hander Brett Martin as the opener before turning to Payano.

Reliever Kelly Put On IR

(Seattle, WA) — Rangers reliever Shawn Kelley is on the 10-day injured list with right biceps soreness. A MRI revealed no major structural damage. Texas has promoted right-hander Rafael Montero from the minors. Montero missed last year after undergoing Tommy John surgery. The Rangers have used 22 relief pitchers this season, plus two position players also pitched in routs.

Hot Astros Rout Athletics

(Houston, TX) — Gerrit Cole allowed one run and two hits, while striking out 11 in seven innings, as the Astros drubbed the Athletics 11-1 in Houston. Cole leads the majors with 205 strikeouts. Aledmys Diaz and Yuli Gurriel each homered and drove in three runs. Yordan Alvarez added a solo shot and drove in two as Houston won its sixth straight. Alvarez has 35 RBI in his first 30 games, which is a major league record.

Cowboys Open Camp Friday

(Frisco, TX) — The Cowboys will report to training camp on Friday in Oxnard, California. Opening ceremonies and the first practice will be Saturday afternoon. A Blue-White controlled scrimmage is scheduled for August 4th. Dallas will play at San Francisco on August 10th in its first preseason game. On August 17th, the Pokes will play the Rams in Honolulu.

Veterans To Report Tomorrow To Texans’ Camp

(Houston, TX) — The Texans have opened camp with the rookies reporting. Tomorrow the veterans are scheduled to arrive. The first Houston preseason game will be August 8th against the Packers in Green Bay.

Spurs Hire Duncan As Assistant Coach

(San Antonio, TX) — “The Big Fundamental” is returning to the Spurs. Tim Duncan will join head coach Gregg Popovich’s staff as an assistant coach. Duncan is the team’s all-time leader in points, blocked shots and rebounds. He played on all five of the Spurs’ NBA championship teams. He retired in 2016 after 19 seasons, all with San Antonio.

FC Dallas Home On Saturday

(Frisco, TX) — FC Dallas will return home Saturday hosting Real Salt Lake at Toyota Stadium. Dallas is coming off a 2-nil victory last weekend at Sporting KC. Dallas is sixth in the MLS Western Conference with 32 points, while Salt Lake is two points behind. The top seven teams qualify for postseason play.
