Man Found Guilty After Aggravated Assault in 2020

Ricky Dwayne Soto was found guilty by a jury on January 5th with the charge of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.

The case concludes events that took place in March 2020, where Soto drove recklessly on I-27 between Canyon and Happy.

While driving at speeds over 100 MPH, he attempted to run another vehicle off the road, to which his ex-girlfriend was a passenger.

Randall County Sheriff’s office, along with Canyon Police Department and the many witnesses on the scene worked to make a strong case to make prosecution possible.

After the jury returned with the guilty verdict, Soto was sentenced to 12 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Institutional Division by Judge Titiana Frausto of the 18th District Court.

12 years was the result of a plea bargain settled by the state and the defendant, within the normal punishment ranges from 2 to 20 years.
