Randall County Grand Jury Indicts Woman For Murder

A Randall County Grand Jury has indicted a woman for a 2020 shooting death.

Nykyia Lynn Smith was booked into the Randall County Jail on May 3 for one count of murder in the death of Kendrick Freeman.

Kendrick Freeman was shot and killed at an apartment complex near SW 45th Avenue and South Western Street in January 2020.

Several days later, police arrested 23-year-old Artrell J. Travis for that murder, and aggravated robbery before booking him into the Randall County Jail.

On April 6, 2021, Travis posted a bond and was released from jail.

His murder charge was dismissed on May 3, 2024, and he was indicted again for the aggravated robbery charge.

Smith is now charged with the shooting death of Freeman. She is in the Randall County Jail on a $500,000 bond.
