Senior cruised to a two-set victory to advance to the quarterfinals

Orlando, Fla. – For the first time in school history, there will be a Lady Raider Tennis player in the NCAA Singles Championship quarterfinals as Felicity Maltby cruised to a two-set win in the Round of 16 on Wednesday evening.

No. 22 Maltby took down No. 61 Petra Melounova (Hawaii) in straight sets (7-5, 6-0) to advance to the quarterfinals. Maltby was down 1-5 in the opening set before switching gears and winning six straight games to take the set, 7-5. She then cruised to a 6-0 win in set two.

“Today was a great example of how much this young lady has grown. Down 5-1 in the first and to will 12 straight games, shows how much she has matured to not get lost in the moment,” Head Coach Todd Petty said. “She’s the first NCAA quarterfinalist in program history and no one deserves it more. She’s getting stronger as the tournament advances and that’s what you have to do to have a shot.”

With the win, Maltby will face the winner between Elysia Bolton (UCLA) and Cameron Morra (UNC) in the quarterfinals on Thursday. The official start time will be announced after all matches have finished for the day.
