Lawrence Lake Repairs To Begin Monday

The city will begin making repairs to pump stations at Lawrence Lake Monday, April 22. The repairs were determined to be needed following routine maintenance and pump start-up testing April 10.

It was during the testing that staff noticed signs of possible vacuum issues, which could lead the the screens being clogged. The pumps were immediately shut down and removed to allow the debris to be removed from the screens.

Officials say the problem was caught in time and no damage was done to the pumps.

It was nearly one year ago Lawrence Lake overflowed during a significant rain event that caused evacuations in the Paramount area, and mass flooding within Amarillo. Pump issues were seen by many as the primary cause of the flooding.

Amarillo residents can monitor playa lake water level and repair updates via the website.
