Kidnapping Call Turns Into SWAT Standoff on Thursday Morning
The Amarillo Police Critical Incident Response Team was out at the 3600 block area of Fleetwood Drive near Paramount Park Thursday morning for a kidnapping call.
The suspect soon fired shots at APD before barricading himself inside of a cellar by a nearby home.
At 11:15 yesterday morning, police heard shots from the cellar, and communication with the suspect stopped.
SWAT team units and the APD bomb squad were also at the scene as they used an explosive device to breach the cellar and reach the suspect at about 12:40 that afternoon.
Upon getting inside the cellar, officers found the suspect dead.
APD Chief Martin Birkenfeld states that the suspect in question had kidnapped a woman late last night, with the woman having since been moved to a local hospital.
