WT Selected Nationally for First-Generation Student Support

West Texas A&M University has been added to a select group of schools highlighting first generation students.

WT will be a part of the 2022-2023 First-Gen Forward initiative, put together by the Center for First-Generation Student Success as part of the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators.

With the student population currently being over 46 percent first generation, being named to this group is a huge milestone for the university, and the different programs and services provided for these students, including the hispanic student-led organization, F1RSTGEN.

Faculty and staff will now be afforded the opportunity to speak with other institutions about creating and improving their environments for students, as well as being represented at a First-Gen Forward Workshop scheduled for early June.

Each school will participate in monthly calls, virtual professional development, goal setting, and after two successful years in the program, schools are eligible to apply for an advisory leadership designation.
