Distracted Driving on the Rise Again Says TxDOT

Distracted driving is once again on the rise in Texas, and the Texas Department of Transportation is asking everyone to do their part.

Since 2017 more than 2,000 people have died due to distracted drivers across the state of Texas, including a 10% increase in 2022.

Amarillo saw 985 crashes in 2022 that involved distraction, driver inattention, or cellphone use which resulted in 12 deaths and 27 serious injuries.

Here are some tips from TxDOT to help drivers stay clear of similar dangerous situations: keep your cell phone away while driving, avoid eating or drinking, and tell friends and family you won’t respond while driving.
