AFD Responded To Multiple Fire Over The Weekend

Bowie Street Fire

The Amarillo Fire Department responded to a structure fire in the 900 block of Bowie Street Friday night.

Once on scene crews found a front room of the residence fully engulfed in flames.

Once they made their way in the home they found an occupant in the living room who was none responsive.

AFD says the individual did call 911 but hung up so an Amarillo Police officer responded and discovered the fire.

The Amarillo Fire Marshal’s Office has ruled this fire undetermined and likely accidental.

AFD says to make sure your smoke detectors are working in your homes along with having an updated escape plan.

Meadowlark Drive Fire

The improper discard of smoking material caused a fire in the 4600 block of Meadowlark Drive Saturday Morning.

The Amarillo Fire Department arrived on scene at 4:48am to find the blaze coming from the backside of a trailer home with the occupant standing outside.

The fire was called under control by 5:08am and was ruled accidental.

AFD reminds everyone to properly dispose of their smoking materials, make sure lighters and any sources of ignition are turned off and cigarettes are extinguished completely before discarding them.

Southwest 1st Street Fire

The Amarillo Fire Department responded to a structure fire in the 2200 block of Southwest 1st where they discovered black smoke coming from the residence.

Crews made entry into the home and had the blaze under control.

Xcel energy was called to have the power to the home cut and the Red Cross was called out to help the family.

The cause of the fire was ruled accidental due to a kerosene heater that was placed too close to combustible materials.

AFD wants to remind everyone to use space heaters properly.

Do not operate your heater near flammable objects or materials such as furniture, drapes, large amounts of dust, or combustible materials.
