The Cares Act To Help Local Colleges

Several schools in the Amarillo area are going to get almost $12 million in federal grant money in response to the Covid-19 outbreak.

The grant funding comes from the higher education emergency relief fund.

Texas Senator John Cornyn says the funding will allow students to defer their federal student loan payments for up to six months.

The Cares Act also provides targeted funding to texas institutions  to help students continue their education, including taking classes on-line.

The Texas Colleges in the area that have been awarded more than $1 billion of the 14-billion available include Amarillo College,  West Texas A&M, Frank Phillips College and Clarendon College.
