One Teenager Killed; Two Others Injured In Single Vehicle Crash

On Sunday, April 21st at 9:37 PM Amarillo Police Department officers were sent to the Dumas Highway and Hastings Avenue on a motor vehicle rollover.

A 2017 Chevrolet Corvette, driven by a 17-year-old male, had been northbound on Dumas Highway at a high rate of speed.

The driver lost control of the Corvette, left the roadway, struck a light pole, slid along a guard rail, drove off of the Dumas Highway overpass over Hastings Avenue struck the ground, slid up the cement embankment on the north side of the overpass, and struck the bottom of the southbound overpass, before coming to rest on Hastings Avenue.

 

A female passenger in the Corvette, 17-year-old Andrea Elizalde of Amarillo, died on scene as a result of injuries received in the crash.

A 22-year-old male passenger of the Corvette was taken to a local area hospital with life-threatening injuries and The Driver of the Corvette received non-life threatening injuries.

Speed, alcohol, and no seat belt are all factors in this accident.

The incident is being investigated by the Traffic Investigation Squad of the Amarillo Police Department.
