Escaped Convict Captured

An escaped convict from Hall County near the Bayer Crop Center just north of New Deal has been captured.

At 3;00 a.m. Thursday morning Lubbock County Sheriff’s office was notified by Hall County that 48-year-old Gary Darnell escaped and was on the loose.

Deputies found the suspect vehicle at I-27 and the 461 Loop in New Deal and started a short chase but the suspect abandoned the car and fled on foot.

The New Deal Volunteer Fire Department DPS and the Lubbock Police assisted in the search and aircraft was enlisted in the search.

Because of the search, The New Deal ISD canceled school.
