Three people were killed and three others injured in a two-vehicle accident in Wheeler County.

A Department of Public Safety preliminary investigation says that accident took place Thursday morning at 9:47 am on I-40 six miles east of Shamrock.

The driver of a 2004 Ford Explorer was driving at an unsafe speed for the slick conditions of the roadway when she lost control of the vehicle.

The Ford crossed the center median and went into the westbound lanes of I-40 where it was broadsided by a 2005 Safari Cheetah RV traveling west.

35-year-old Elizabeth Johanson, the driver of the Ford and passenger 35-year-old Adam Johanson of Cleveland Mississippi were transported to Shamrock General Hospital where they both later died.

A 10-year-old female Died on scene.

Other passengers in the Explorer, a 55-year-old male and 3 -year -old female were transported to Shamrock General Hospital and later airlifted to Northwest Hospital in Amarillo with life-threatening injuries.

A 12-year-old female was transported to Shamrock General Hospital with minor injuries where she was treated and later released to a family member.

The 51-year-old male driver and 49-year-old female passenger of the RV, both from Placentia, California were uninjured.

The drivers and passengers of both vehicles were wearing seatbelts.

This accident remains under investigation.
