City Receives Federal Funding To Replace Railroad Crossing With Overpass

As the federal government seeks to eliminate railroad crossings by replacing them with overpasses, the City of Amarillo will see the crossing at N.E. 24th in the Eastridge neighborhood benefit from $8.4 million dollars courtesy of the program.

That overpass is among 63 such projects across the nation to receive their share of the $570 million dollar Railroad Crossing Elimination fund. Texas has five projects, including Eastridge.

Eliminating these crossings will increase pedestrian safety as well as increase car traffic capacity.

The N.E. 24th crossing in the Eastridge neighborhood will cost $11.4 million, with the City of Amarillo covering the overage.
