City Looking Into Grand Street; Freeman To Hold Press Conference Today

Just days removed from the victim’s burials, the City of Amarillo is openly discussing the possibility of changing the section of Grand Street in which the accident occurred from 2 lanes to 5 lanes,

Last Friday, January 19, Interim City Manager Andrew Freeman addressed the mayor and city council members via the city’s message board referred to as the City Council Forum, providing a history of repair costs and recommendations for Grand Street, Freeman also included some traffic data noted as being “Sample comparisons to arterials with the same cross intersections” which include Georgia, Bell and Ross Streets.

Mayor Cole Stanley expressed interest in the information. There seems to be some questions as to whose responsibility that section of Grand Street might be, with Mayor Stanley seeking a timeline of the survey that might better illustrate exactly where the county line is.

Freeman is scheduled to address the post during a press conference at 3 p.m. today.
