Canyon Tax Increment Zone

Canyon city officials have voted to have a tax increment reinvestment zone. The zone stretches from Highway 60 to 6th Avenue And will include the downtown square.

Taxpayers will not have to pay extra in taxes for the work, but funds are being put aside from [property taxes inside the zone to go back into the area.

Changes to be made include improving the downtown area’s appearance, sidewalk work, and a drainage system to be ADA accessible and pedestrian-friendly. Changes can also be made in traffic direction in the downtown square area.

The city wants this zone since downtown was classified as a priority in a 2018 comprehensive plan..

The funding will add more money to make progress in their downtown master plan project, and the zone will be in place for 25 years and will immediately go into effect.
