Canyon Budget

The City of Canyon has approved the budget for 2022-23.

Changes were made to shore up a 250-thousand dollar deficit, and the final vote came down to a three-to-one vote.

The changes made witrh estimates reevaluated, increasing the budgeted revenue. On the expenditures, changes were made with the most significant being a reduction to the expansion of the certification pay program.

The commission voted to cut 155 thousand dollars in expenditure costs in half, and since last year there’s been a 385-thousand-dollar decrease.

There will be a minor tax increase that in effect will be a six percent decrease from last year.,

The next move is a public hearing and approval on the actual tax rate. That’s due on August 15.

Once the procedure is complete, the budget and tax rate will be set and the city will be ready for Ocober 4th.
