WT Track and Field Athletes Recognized for Their Accomplishments

Members of West Texas A&M’s track and field team were recognized for their accomplishments across this past season.

Benjamin Azamati was named South Central Region Male Track Athlete of the Year after taking the award home last year, becoming the first athlete since 2017 to win the award in back-to-back years.

Zada Swoopes was named South Central Region Women’s Field Athlete of the Year after breaking the national D2 shot put record, as well as claiming her 4th-straight Lone Star Conference shot put championship.

Leah Belfield was named South Central Region Women’s Track Athlete of the Year after winning the 200-meter national title.

Swoopes and Belfield also received LSC Field Athlete of the Year and Female Track Athlete of the Year respectively.

Head coach Matt Stewart was also recognized with both the South Central Region Men’s and Women’s Coach of the Year honors after leading both programs to Top 5 finishes at the NCAA Indoor National Championships.
