Walmart Fire Suspect Indicted

A New Mexico man suspected of torching a Walmart in Clovis has been indicted on federal charges of arson and attempted arson.

The Ninth Judicial Judge dismissed the state charges so 59-year-old Jimmie Guillen could be prosecuted under federal law.

Under state law, Guillen faced up to 25 ½ years in prison if convicted on all charges.

Under federal law, Guillen could face up to 40 years in prison.

Guillen remains in the Curry County Adult Detention Center.

He will not be released because he is on a retainer, and will be taken to a federal holding facility.

Guillen was arrested on September 13th in Lubbock after police questioned him the morning of the Clovis Walmart fire.
