Two High School Students To Graduate From Jail Academy

Two Canyon ISD students are the first in the Lone Star State to go through its jail academy.

As it works, in a student’s last semester of his or her senior year, they go through the academy, and after graduation, they can go right into the workforce.

Students can participate through the Career and Technical Education program at Canyon ISD, and going through the jail academy counts as coursework.  In the end, they can go into the workforce and be licensed jailers in the Texas system.

The two students will take the exam on Thursday.

Randall County Sheriff Chris Forbis says he’s excited and proud of the two students because this is a way to get and retain quality students.

Randall County students are eligible for the jail academy after attending the student academy.
