Texas DMV Registration Extension Due to COVID-19

After Governor Greg Abbott declared a state of disaster for the state, The Texas Department of Motor Vehicles is granting a temporary extension for vehicle registrations.

The extension applies to registration renewals, permanent disabled placards, and 30-day temporary permits needed to operate a vehicle on public roads.

The waiver is in effect for 60 days. The Texas DMV will provide notice when normal service has resumed.

The purpose of the waiver is so customers will not have to go to their local tax assessor’s office for registration due to the COVID-19.
