Small businesses in Amarillo are using new strategies to survive the holiday shopping season despite the Pandemic.

The National Retail federation says only 23 percent of consumers plan on buying gifts locally from home grown stores, while 60 percent plan to order gifts on-line

This has forced small businesses offering on-line services to customers such as click and collect, which allows stores to take customers on personal tours around the shop.

Local stores are fighting to keep up with Wal-Mart and Target’s month long Black Friday deals.

Wolflin Square is hosting a Small Business Saturday event to encourage people to come out and support their stores and benefit from special discounts. One business is offering markdown specials every weekend leading up to Christmas.

Small business owners say supporting local businesses does more than support the business owner but also the city by a percentage of the sales tax goes to improving the city and funding public services.
