Proposition 4 Election

Proposition 4 on the November ballot would amend the Texas Constitution to allow tax cuts that were approved in the Legislatures 2023 special session.

Prop 4 allows the legislature to reduce property taxes.

The homestead exemption would increase from 40-thousand to 100-thousand, and approve sending money to school districts to replace lost tax revenue.

Supporters of the proposition say the property tax cuts would save Texans an average of 13-hundred-dollars a year, with over 12-billion-dollars sent to schools, with additional cuts for senior property owners and those with disabilities.

Arguments against the proposition say It gives no relief to renters and shifting away from property taxes for public schools could result in higher sales taxes and higher taxes on businesses.
