Point In Time Count

Amarillo’s Point In Time count shows a definite decrease in homelessness in the city.

The Point in Time count is a 24-hour brief overview of a typical homeless person’s day.

This year’s count is lower than in 2023 and in 2022.

Five hundred and 25 homeless individuals were counted, with 262 being sheltered and 263 being unsheltered.

Kraig Stockstill, chair of Continuum of Care board of directors says the numbers prove that agencies helping the homeless are making some headway.

COVID-19 does not contribute to Amarillo’s homelessness, but most say, the high price of living like rent and deposits are a common reason for homelessness.

Transformation Park is the main focus of future funding, providing shelter for the unsheltered, and the Continuum of Care says Veteran’s homelessness is a large focus for homeless aid organizations.
