Officer Involved Shooting

Amarillo Police are looking into an officer-involved shooting.

It happened at 11:15, Sunday night when officers were called to a family dispute at Leigh and Stardust.

Officers arrived and found a male in a car leaving the scene, and as he drove away, he crashed into a home on Reis.

As officers were getting out of their cars, the suspect fired shots at them, and police returned fire, hitting the man.

Thirty-year-old Jesus Rodriguez was taken to the hospital where he later died from his wounds.

A child was in the house when the car struck it. He was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

APD’s Homicide Unit is investigating.
