North Heights Property To Get A Facelift

An eyesore in the North Heights neighborhood is one step closer to being demolished or re-developed.

Now it’s one step closer to a solution.

The old Ponderosa Apartments in the 1200 block of Monroe is undergoing clean-up and restoration and neighbors to the property have described it as run-down, trash-laden, and should have been demolished.

A city condemnation process started in 2023.

Since then a fence has been out up around the property, plywood has been put up securing all openings and people have been stationed to maintain trash pick-up.

The Ponderosa property has 46 units and has been subject to a multitude of hazards, fires, vandalism, and police reports;.

The new owners are tasked with rehabbing the property, and at the end of 60 days, the city will decide to extend its provisional permit or not.

If it does not get the extension, the condemnation process will proceed
