No Progress Towards Ending MLB Lockout

Major League Baseball and the MLB Players Association met earlier today, but were unable to make any significant progress towards finalizing a new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).

While almost nobody expected the two sides to complete the deal today, there was some hope they could at least get closer.  That ended up not being the case as the meeting lasted only 15 minutes.

It is worth mentioning that meeting length is not directly correlated with progress made; a majority of the more important issues are discussed and fleshed out before the sides even meet.  Also of note, MLB’s Dan Halem and the MLBPA’s Bruce Meyer had a 20-minute discussion after the main one ended.

The good news? There are at least some proposals both parties see eye-to-eye on.

Up to this point they have already agreed the DH will be universal for the upcoming season and beyond (sorry baseball purists).  They also agreed to eliminate draft pick compensation moving forward.

The bad news? We’ve already missed the deadline to have any sort of Spring Training, and with each passing day we’re in danger of losing regular season games too.

The hope is that can be avoided, but at the rate the talks are progressing that may be wishful thinking.
