Local Law Enforcement To Be Out In Force During Independence Day Holiday

The Amarillo Police Department will have extra officers out from Friday July 2nd through Monday July 5th to focus on impaired drivers during the Independence Day Holiday.

The July 4th holiday is recognized as one of the deadliest holidays on our roadways with an average of an alcohol-related crash in Texas every 20 minutes.

DWI penalties include jail time, a suspended driver’s license, and as much as $20,000 or more in fines, legal fees, and other expenses.

The Amarillo Police Department has received a Comprehensive Selective Traffic Enforcement Program or STEP grant courtesy of the Texas Department of Transportation.

Officers will concentrate their enforcement efforts on impaired drivers, speeding violators, and seat belt/child restraint violators.
