Clovis Man Gets 30 Years In Prison

Kidnapping, rape, and burglary charges have a Clovis man looking at 30 years in prison.

Twenty-five-year-old Jose Maldonado has been sentenced to 30 years in jail from a 2021 incident.

The May 2021 incident happened when Maldonado broke into a woman’s home and assaulted her. The victim was able to distract Maldonado and escape out of the bedroom window to a neighbor’s house to call 911. Police matched Maldonado’s DNA to a sexual assault kit collected by ARISE sexual assault services.

The kidnapping and criminal sexual penetration charges are considered serious violent offenses, which will require Maldonado to serve 85% of 27 years out of his sentence. Once out of prison, officials say Maldonado will be on sex offender parole for at least 5 years up to as long as his natural life.

Ninth Judicial District Attorney, Quentin Ray says the judge told Maldonado he’s a predator and if given the chance, he would do this again.
