Canyon ISD; Armed Guards

With the new school security law in effect placing armed guards on every campus, Canyon is looking at options moving forward.

After reviewing data and having conversations with local law enforcement, the CISD Board of Trustees realized that hiring that many officers this school year would not be possible.

The alternative plan currently being discussed by the school district is the Guardian Program.

This program will allow for school staffers to carry weapons on campus. This, in turn, will require extra training for concealed weapons carry.

The district is currently gauging interest from faculty members who would have to volunteer for those positions.

So far, no decisions have been put in stone.
