Bystander Helps APD

An Amarillo Police officer can thank a bystander for helping him subdue a man, Friday morning.

At 8:00 a.m., a motorcycle officer was conducting a traffic stop and found out the suspect had an outstanding warrant.

The suspect started fighting, resisting, and finally got away.

A chase started that ended in an alley behind Network Finance, near 34th and South Western Street.

The officer knocked the man to the ground, and while they were fighting the suspect tried to reach the officer’s gun.

A bystander jumped in to help the officer with the suspect. and the suspect reached for the gun again, and that’s when a shot was fired. and the officer suffered a graze wound, but he continued to hold the man down.

The unidentified suspect has been arrested. The officer was treated on scene, and taken to the hospital for treatment.
