Amarillo Water, Trash Rates May Be Going Up

Amarillo budget talks have  City Council staff in deep discussion. 

Despite a small decrease in property taxes, water, and sewer rates may go up.

The Assistant City Manager says rising electricity costs and needed construction are some of the reasons for a proposed five percent increase in water rates.

And, there is still the possibility that trash collection fees could also be going up five percent to account for growth.

Staffers are still unclear as to how that would be distributed between  residential and commercial customers
