Amarillo VA Health Care to Acknowledge Texas’ First Veterans Suicide Prevention Day

As a part of National Suicide Prevention Month, the Amarillo VA Health Care System will recognize the first Texas Veterans Suicide Prevention Day on Friday, September 22.

Texas recently surpassed California as the state with the most veterans, with approximately 73% of Texas Veterans dying by suicide using a firearm.

Amarillo VA has worked intently to prevent suicide by regularly distributing gun locks to veterans and providing education about the benefits of safe storage.

Veterans in crisis can contact the Veterans Crisis Line to receive 24/7 confidential support from professionals. Veterans don’t have to be enrolled in VA benefits or health care to connect either. To reach responders, dial 988 then press 1. Chat online at VeteransCrisisLine.net, or text 838255.
