Amarillo Police Shooting Update

Amarillo Police have released new information about an officer involved shooting on at a 6th Avenue tattoo shop on February 15th.

Police responded to a call about a suicidal person threatening to hurt himself and at the time there was no mention of a weapon.

The person is identified as 40-year-old Jacob Salas Tijerina.

Department Crisis Intervention Team responded and found Salas-Tijerina, just after 1;00 p.m. to try to aid the man.

As police entered the building they found customers and employees in there. The man came out of a back room and started to point a gun at them. That’s when one of the officers opened fire on him. He was taken to the hospital.

A 25-year-old second person was in the back room also and he was hit by a bullet. That man was taken to the hospital for treatment.

The investigation is on-going with the APD Homicide Unit, and all findings will be turned over to the D.A.’s Office for review.
