Amarillo Police Arrest Convicted Felon
Amarillo Police have a man under arrest after he was found in possession of a gun during a traffic stop this morning.
The police say at 4:15a.m. Wednesday an officer made a traffic stop on a vehicle with a fictitious license plate at southwest 51st Avenue.
The driver of the vehicle refused to identify himself but was later found out to be 30-year-old Matthew Jon Lopez.
After a search, he was found to have methamphetamine and a handgun on him. He was later found to be a convicted felon and have an active probation violation warrant for Aggravated Assault on a public servant.
The charges against him are felon in Possession of a firearm, Possession of a Controlled Substance and failure to identify, Fugitive from Justice, as well as on his active.
He’s sitting in the Randall County Jail.
