Amarillo Man In Custody After Assaulting Peace Officers, Resisting Arrest

An Amarillo man was placed into custody on Monday, June 12th after Potter County officials say he resisted arrest and assaulted an officer and deputy.

At 10:15 am on Monday, an APD officer requested that the department investigate a suspicious individual near North US Highway 287 and Givens Avenue.

An officer and deputy approached 44-year-old Rocky Joe Saldivar while he was standing next to a pickup causing damage before he walked into traffic.

He began to resist the officers attempting to get out of the roadway and struck both individuals in the struggle.

Saldivar was arrested and charged with two counts of assault against a peace officer, resisting arrest, possession of drug paraphernalia, and a class c warrant for an off-highway vehicle decal.

He was taken to the Potter County Detention Center, and no injuries have been reported for anyone involved.
