Amarillo Downtown Paid Parking

Downtown paid parking may become a thing of the past in Amarillo.

City leaders are thinking of repealing the ordinance of the curbside paid parking.

They want people to come into downtown Amarillo, spending money in retail businesses without the encumbrance of having to pay to park.

In the meantime, the signs will remain up, but you will not have to pay.

The plan is to change the paid parking to a mixed model of timed parking with one and two-hour limits.

Currently, there are 900 paid parking spaces and 12 hundred timed parking spots, and the plan is to change the paid parking to a mixed model of timed parking with one and two-hour limits.

In the past five years, the city has made 158 thousand dollars in paid revenue from the paid parking and the Council does not think the revenue is beneficial to the city.

The next move comes when the Council will talk to business owners to see what they want about the timed parking and that’s when the signage will come down.
