WTAMU Hosting Series of Education Events
West Texas A&M has a series of events that will be taking place over the next few weeks.
Lovin’ the Arts
On October 22, The WT Opera will be hosting a free concert and tour of the new film studio in Amarillo at a fundraiser for the program at 1314 South Polk Street at 6:30.
The evening will include a tour of the studio, followed by performances by Esquire Jazz and Opera Cowgirls, which includes Sarah Beckham-Turner, WT assistant professor of music and director of WT Opera.
Admission is free, but donations will support WT’s upcoming performances of “The Magic Flute” and “Gallantry.” RSVPs are requested. For information, call 806-651-2840.
Claudia Stuart Book Signing
On October 26th at 3pm, Claudia Stuart, a professor emeritus, will be signing copies of the third edition of her book “Poetry, Prose and Penguins” on the first floor of WT’s Cornette Library.
“This signing is open to the WT campus community and the community at large,” Stuart said. “Students, in particular, are always seeking, and that’s what you need to appreciate poetry.”
Stuart also will have other books and her penguin paintings on porcelain tiles on hand. For information, call 806-651-2229.
Remnant Trust Discussion
And on October 28th at 7pm, WT Department of History will host a roundtable discussion featuring faculty and graduate students in Legacy Hall in the Jack B. Kelley Student Center.
Participants are scheduled to include Brasington; Dr. Marty Kuhlman, WT’s Jenny Lind Porter Professor of History; Dr. Brian Ingrassia, associate professor of history; Dr. Matthew Reardon, associate professor of history; and Courtney Crowley, instructor of history. History graduate students Alexis Torres of Amarillo, Kirbi Kelly-Diaz of Amarillo and Katelyn Denney of Amarillo also will participate.
The Remnant Trust’s exhibition “The Theme Is Freedom,” cosponsored by WT’s Sybil B. Harrington College of Fine Arts and Humanities and the Department of History, will be on view in Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum’s Research Center and WT’s Cornette Library through Oct. 28.
