Texas Tax Free Weekend

The Texas Sales Tax-Free weekend starts this Friday, August 11th, and goes through to midnight 13th.

The Comptroller encourages all taxpayers to support Texas businesses while saving money on tax-free purchases of most clothing, footwear, school supplies, and backpacks (sold for less than $100) during the annual Tax-Free weekend.

Qualifying items are clothing, footwear, and other items, school supplies, face masks, and backpacks.  Special purchases such as school supplies using a business account-an exemption certificate will be required, layaways, special orders, and rain checks are also included

Delivery, shipping, handling, and transportation charges by the seller are part of the item’s sales price.

If you pay a sales tax on qualifying items during the sales tax holiday, you can ask the seller for a refund of the tax paid, and he can either grant the refund or supply the purchaser with a form that can be used to claim the refund from the State Comptrollers’ office
