Texas Power Grid In Good Shape

This morning ERCOT’s live supply and demand tracker said the demand for power in Texas hit 68-thousand six-hundred and 81 Milliwatts at 8:40 a.m. and is expected to decrease for the rest of the day.

Throughout the week, the State of Texas did not expect to issue conservation alerts and earlier this week Governor Greg Abbott said that he did not expect a load shed event. A load shed event happens when there is too much demand for the power grid to handle and ERCOT asks providers to start pushing people off with rolling blackouts.

During the 2020 winter storm so much was required to be shed that those rolling blackouts lasted for days and did not roll.

This year’s cold snap doesn’t compare, last year’s peak demand was 74 thousand Milliwatts, While as of this morning the grid had 83 thousand Milliwatts with a 15-thousand Milliwatt margin of safety.
