Proposition 8 High Speed Internet

Proposition 8 on the November ballot has to do with broadband infrastructure to expand and assist in financing connectivity projects.

Prop 8 would allow Texas to create a 5-billion-dollar fund to expand high-speed internet throughout the state.

Money from the created fund, along with federal money, would be used for investments in internet projects.

Arguments for Prop 8 are it would expand the service across the state where private companies do not currently operate and the fund would help Texas use state funds to take advantage of federal dollars to expand the availability for more Texans.

Arguments against include funding high-speed internet is not the responsibility of the government, and private companies have already provided most of Texas with access.

Also, those against Prop 8 say it does not prioritize lower-income communities for the service.
