Gestational Diabetes

Northwest Texas Hospital is using education to fight gestational diabetes.

Gestational diabetes is when a person has diabetes just when they’re pregnant when there is insulin resistance from being in that condition.

Northwest Texas Hospital is offering free classes to help fight the condition.

Hospital officials say women that are diagnosed with the condition are 60 to 75% chance of developing type two diabetes later in life.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention, says risks associated with the condition include complications at delivery, a heavier birth weight which can cause more stress at birth, hypoglycemia, and stillbirth, and can mimic the symptoms of a normal pregnancy.

NWTHS offers complimentary classes on gestational diabetes, including prevention and treatment. For more information, go online at NWTHS dot com.
