Cornyn Senate Republican Leader

U.S. Senator John Cornyn says he’s looking to replace Mitch McConnel as the Senate Republican leader.

The Kentucky Senator announced this week he is stepping down from his position.

McConnell is the longest-serving Senate leader in history and has been elected to the position nine times since 2006

Cornyn is the first senator to announce he’s running for McConnel’s seat. Senator Cornyn serves on the Finance, Intelligence, and  Judiciary Committees. 

He has also served as McConnel’s second-in-command, with six years of experience under the Kentucky Senator.

Cornyn has also served as the Republican Whip from 2013 to 2019.
